Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
Making Dental Care More Accessible for Canadians
At Courtenay Dental, we are committed to supporting our patients’ oral health and ensuring they have access to the care they need. We are pleased to inform you about the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), a federal initiative designed to make dental services more affordable for eligible Canadians.
What Is the CDCP?
The CDCP is a national program introduced by the Government of Canada to reduce financial barriers to dental care. It aims to assist up to nine million Canadian residents who lack dental insurance and have an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the CDCP, you must:
- Not have access to dental insurance
- Have an adjusted family net income under $90,000
- Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes
- Have filed your tax return for the previous year
Applications are open in phases:
- Seniors aged 65 and over
- Adults aged 55 to 64
- Adults aged 18 to 54 with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate
- Children under 18
For more details on application timelines, please visit the official CDCP website.
Services Covered
The CDCP covers a range of dental services, including:
- Examinations (complete, routine, specific, and emergency)
- X-rays
- Cleanings (scaling)
- Fluoride treatments
- Sealants
- Fillings (permanent and temporary)
- Root canal treatments
- Removable dentures
- Oral surgery
Please note that some services may require preauthorization, especially those beyond established frequency limits.
Cost and Reimbursement
The CDCP reimburses a portion of dental treatment costs based on your adjusted family net income:
- Income under $70,000: Full coverage for eligible services
- Income between $70,000 and $79,999: 60% coverage
- Income between $80,000 and $89,999: 40% coverage
You may be responsible for additional charges if:
- Your income is between $70,000 and $89,999
- The cost of services exceeds the CDCP reimbursement rates
- You opt for services not covered by the CDCP
It’s essential to confirm with your dental provider whether they participate in the CDCP and agree to bill Sun Life directly for covered services.
How to Apply
Eligible individuals can apply for the CDCP through the official Government of Canada website. Ensure you have your tax information ready, as it’s required to assess your eligibility.
